Ascending and Descending Order

Ascending order means to arrange the numbers from smallest to largest.

Descending order means to arrange the numbers from largest to smallest.

Example 3 : Arrange the following numbers in ascending order.
76832, 47925, 31580, 276814
Solution : Put these numbers in place value chart. L TTh Th H T O
Here 276814 is a 6-digit number 0 7 6 8 3 2
while all other numbers have 4 7 9 2 5
5-digits so 276814 is the greatest number 3 1 5 8 0
2 7 6 8 1 4
Now compare extreme left digit of remaining
three numbers.
Here 7 > 4 > 3
So we can say that
76832 > 47925 > 31580
So the ascending order of these numbers is
31580 < 47925 < 76832 < 276814

Example 4 : Arrange the given numbers in descending order.
349160, 53608, 40580, 141837
Solution : Put these numbers in place value chart.
Here are two 6-digit number and two L TTh Th H T O
5-digit numbers. 3 4 9 1 6 0
In 6-digit numbers 5 3 6 0 8
5 > 4
349160 > 141837 4 0 5 8 0

In 5-digit numbers 1 4 1 8 3 7
53608 > 40580
So takeing these numbers in descending order
349160 > 141837 > 53608 > 40580
