                                                Place Value and Face Value

Face Value of a Digit in a Numeral

The face value of a digit in a Numeral is the value of the digit itself at whatever
             place it may be :

                           Thus, in the numeral 24679
The face value of 6 is 6

The face value of 2 is 2 and so on

             Take one more example,
The face value of 7 in 173259 is 7. So, face value of 2 in this number is 2.

Place Value of a Digit in a Numeral

Place value of a digit equals to (Face value of the digit) × (value of the place).
The place value of each digit in the number 85,325 is given below :

               TTh Th H T O
                8 5 3 2 5
                                       5 × ones = 5
                                       2 × tens = 20

                                       3 × hundreds = 300
                                       5 × thousands = 5,000
                                       8 × ten thousands = 80,000
             Take another example
The place value form of 1, 32, 579 is :

               L TTh Th H T O
               1 3 2 5 7 9
                                          9 × ones = 9
                                          7 × tens = 70
                                          5 × hundreds = 500
                                          2 × thousands = 2,000

                                          3 × ten thousands = 30,000
                                          1 × lakh =1,00,000
                                                                                                                   7
                                                                                      Mathematics In Focus - 4
